Sunday, June 12, is Pentecost, when Christians around the world celebrate the power of the Holy Spirit filling Jesus’ disciples. In preparation, the Rev. Thomas R. Albin sat down with Kathy Noble, Interpreter OnLine editor, to talk about the Holy Spirit.

Now dean of the Upper Room Ministries and ecumenical relations for the General Board of Discipleship, Albin is a member of the Oklahoma Conference. He served churches there before spending one year on the faculty of Boston University School of Theology and then going to the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary to teach and develop the program of spiritual formation. He taught for 12 years before joining the staff of The Upper Room.

Edited excerpts of their conversation follow.

The United Methodist Church of Monroe held its second community paper shredding event on Saturday, April 9, 2011
rightwhen people and companies were ready to discard old tax records. Funds raised will benefit church mission
apportionments.

In order to make the fund raiser a successr a flier was put together to publicize the event. Click here to view flier.

By shredding anything that contains one’s social security number or other personal information, the event becomes a
service to the community to help prevent identity fraud. Because your shredded, old files will be recycled, you will also
be helping to keep Monroe green while clearing storage space in your home or business.

Fliers were sent early so that the community had time to sort and gather their papers before April 9. Parihoners were
asked to  be creative inways to inform their friends, family and co-workers of the opportunity to rid themselves of
unwanted sensitive papers and simultaneously help fund missions for those less fortunate.
